Seedance 2.5 vs 2.0: Clip Length, Reference Limits, 4K and Price Compared
Credits and specs follow TWno1's live billing settings. Last checked: 2026-10-05
Seedance 2.5 runs up to 30 seconds per clip and the 2.0 series stops at 15, the biggest gap between them in October 2026.
Length is the obvious difference. It is rarely the one that bites. The things that cause wrong picks are quieter: only 2.0 renders 4K, 2.5's 1080p is a 10-bit file that some players refuse, and both versions bill by video token rather than by second. Below: the specs side by side, a worked cost example from BytePlus's own numbers, and a short decision list. Every spec comes from BytePlus ModelArk documentation checked on 2026-10-05. Vendors change these pages often, so re-check before you commit budget.
The spec sheet, side by side
| Spec | Seedance 2.5 | Seedance 2.0 series |
|---|---|---|
| Clip length | 4-30 s (or let the model choose) | 4-15 s (or let the model choose) |
| Omni-reference inputs | 30 images, 10 videos, 10 audio clips | 9 images, 3 videos, 3 audio clips |
| Audio-only reference | Accepted | Not accepted (text + audio also refused) |
| Resolution | 480p, 720p, 1080p (1080p is 10-bit) | 480p, 720p, 1080p, 4K (4K is 10-bit); fast and mini cap at 720p |
| Frame rate | 24 fps | 24 fps |
| Aspect ratios | 16:9, 4:3, 1:1, 3:4, 9:16, 21:9, adaptive | Same |
| 480p draft mode | Yes | Documented only for 2.5 and 1.5 pro |
| Prompt languages | 11, including Thai, Vietnamese, Korean, Arabic, Malay | Missing those five |
| Reference media with real human faces | Refused | Refused |
Some rules apply to both. Each version supports text-to-video, first frame, first and last frame, and omni reference. You get one of those per request. You cannot pin a first frame and also attach a bag of references.
The 2.0 reference limits have a catch people skip. Each reference video must be 2-15 s, with at most three of them, and the combined length cannot exceed 15 s. Audio references follow the same rule. A 20-second music bed is simply out of spec on 2.0.
Thirty images is a ceiling, not a target
Many comparisons lead with "2.5 accepts 30 images." True, and mostly beside the point.
BytePlus's own 2.0 prompt guide suggests about four or five assets per request: one or two character images (a face close-up plus a full body), one scene, one camera-motion video, one audio clip. Its reasoning: past that, the model cannot tell which asset matters most. The same guide warns that more than four reference people lowers stability, and that multi-angle character sheets can make one character appear twice. BytePlus says that duplication cannot be fully prevented.
So the larger cap earns its keep in rare, crowded shots where 2.0's nine slots run out. For a normal single shot, nine is plenty.
How the bill works: tokens, not seconds
BytePlus publishes the estimate: tokens ≈ (input video seconds + output seconds) × width × height × fps ÷ 1024. Multiply by the per-million-token rate. Failed tasks and tasks rejected by moderation are not charged.
Seedance 2.5 rates on BytePlus, checked 2026-10-05:
| Seedance 2.5 request | Per million tokens |
|---|---|
| 480p/720p, no video input | US$10.70 |
| 480p/720p, with video input | US$6.40 |
| 1080p, no video input | US$11.7 |
| 1080p, with video input | US$7.0 |
Here is the math for a vertical 9:16 clip. At 720p the frame is 720×1280, so 720 × 1280 × 24 ÷ 1024 = 21,600 tokens per second. At US$10.70 per million, that is about US$0.231 per second. At 1080p (1080×1920) you get 48,600 tokens per second, or about US$0.569. Both match the 5-second examples BytePlus prints (US$1.156 at 720p, US$2.843 at 1080p).
| 9:16 clip | 720p | 1080p |
|---|---|---|
| 10 s | 216,000 tokens, about US$2.31 | 486,000 tokens, about US$5.69 |
| 15 s | 324,000 tokens, about US$3.47 | 729,000 tokens, about US$8.53 |
| 30 s | 648,000 tokens, about US$6.93 | 1,458,000 tokens, about US$17.06 |
Two things fall out of this.
Cost is linear. A 30-second clip costs exactly twice a 15-second one. Going long on 2.5 saves you an edit point, not money.
The cheaper "with video input" rate is a trap. Input seconds count toward tokens, and BytePlus applies a minimum token floor to requests with video. Its own example: a 5-second 1080p output with a 2-30 s reference video costs US$3.062 to US$11.907. The same 5 seconds with no video costs US$2.843. You can verify the top figure: (30 + 5) × 48,600 = 1,701,000 tokens × US$7.0 per million = US$11.907. The rate is 40% lower, yet at the top of that example range the bill is up to about 4.2 times higher.
Two smaller notes. Draft mode on 2.5 makes a 480p preview and then a 1080p final, and each step is billed. Turning on Seedance 2.0 or 2.5 in ModelArk needs an account balance above US$30 or a prepaid pack.
What about 2.0's token rate on BytePlus? We left it out on purpose. When we checked, the pricing table's layout did not let us read the 2.0 row reliably, and we would rather leave a gap than guess. One cross-check is a reseller. Runway's developer API pricing on 2026-10-05 lists Seedance 2 at 36 credits per second for 480p/720p, and Seedance 2.5 at 20, 30 and 68 credits per second for 480p, 720p and 1080p. One credit is US$0.01. On Runway, then, 720p on 2.5 is cheaper than on 2.0. Prices differ a lot by channel. Compare the one you will actually pay.
Which one to call: five questions, in order
- Does a single shot need to run past 15 s without a seam? Use 2.5. On 2.0 you would extend or stitch up to three clips, and BytePlus's guide admits extension seams can jump or roll back, with quality and faces degrading after repeated extensions.
- Does the delivery spec say 4K? Use 2.0. Seedance 2.5 tops out at 1080p.
- Do you have only a sound file (narration, music) and no image? Use 2.5. The 2.0 series refuses audio-only references.
- Is the dialogue in Thai, Vietnamese, Korean, Arabic or Malay? Use 2.5.
- Does one request truly need more than nine images or three reference videos? Use 2.5, after rereading the section above.
If you answered no to all five, either version works and the choice comes down to your channel's per-second price. If you are starting from scratch, we would suggest trying 2.5 first, mainly because the 480p draft lets you check the motion before paying for 1080p. We would suggest staying on 2.0 in two cases: the brief requires 4K, or you already have a tuned set of 2.0 prompts and references and switching means retesting all of it.
Limits of 2.5, and when 2.0 is the better pick
- No 4K. If the spec says 4K, it is 2.0.
- 1080p is 10-bit H.265. BytePlus warns some players cannot open it and suggests VLC, mpv or QuickTime. The same applies to 2.0's 4K. Before posting to social platforms we would re-encode to a standard 8-bit H.264 mp4. That is our inference from the vendor's warning, not BytePlus's wording.
- No real faces. Both versions refuse reference images or videos containing real human faces. BytePlus offers authorized portrait assets or a digital-character library instead. Using your own photo or an actor's photo as a reference does not work on either version.
- No seed for reruns. BytePlus lists the seed parameter only for 1.5 pro and the 1.0 series. Running the same prompt twice on 2.0 or 2.5 can give quite different results.
- Mono audio. Output audio is mono no matter how many channels your reference has.
- Seven-day retention. Task results expire after 7 days. Download what you want to keep.
- A 30-second take is not a safer take. 2026 preprints still report identity drift in commercial video models, and tie long-video drift to duplicated characters and lost attributes. When a 30-second take fails, the retry costs 30 seconds too.
If you need 4K, direct control over token parameters, or bulk API calls, go straight to BytePlus; an all-in-one platform is the wrong tool for that. What TWno1 itself offers is described on Studio and the pricing page, and clip-length limits for other models are compared under models.
FAQ
How long can a single Seedance 2.5 or Seedance 2.0 clip be?
According to BytePlus ModelArk documentation checked on 2026-10-05, Seedance 2.5 generates 4 to 30 seconds per clip and the Seedance 2.0 series generates 4 to 15 seconds. Both can let the model pick the length, and both output 24 fps. On 2.0, anything longer than 15 seconds has to be built by extending or stitching up to three clips.
Is Seedance 2.5 more expensive than Seedance 2.0?
It depends on where you buy. BytePlus lists Seedance 2.5 at US$10.70 per million tokens for 480p/720p and US$11.7 for 1080p without video input (2026-10-05), which works out to about US$0.231 per second for vertical 720p and US$0.569 for vertical 1080p. On the same date Runway's API listed Seedance 2 at 36 credits per second and Seedance 2.5 at 30 credits per second for 720p (one credit = US$0.01), so on Runway 2.5 is the cheaper one.
Can Seedance 2.5 or 2.0 use a photo of a real person as a reference?
No. BytePlus documentation checked on 2026-10-05 says both Seedance 2.5 and the Seedance 2.0 series refuse reference images or videos that contain real human faces, and points users to authorized portrait assets or a digital-character library. TWno1's content policy separately bans using a real person's photo, name, likeness or voice for sexual or nude content.
Why won't some players open Seedance 2.5 1080p files?
Seedance 2.5 renders 1080p, and Seedance 2.0 renders 4K, as 10-bit H.265 (HEVC). BytePlus says some players cannot play these files and suggests VLC, mpv or QuickTime. For social platforms, re-encoding to an 8-bit H.264 mp4 is the safer delivery format.
Should I use all 30 reference images Seedance 2.5 allows?
No. Thirty images, ten videos and ten audio clips is the Seedance 2.5 maximum. BytePlus's own prompt guide recommends about four or five assets per request and warns that more than four reference people lowers stability, while multi-angle character sheets can make a character appear twice.
